It's only money.
Katrina still has a lot of damage to do, but the current estimates of damage are anywhere from 9 to 26 billion. That’s a lot of money, until one considers that the was in Iraq is costing 7.4 million dollars an hour,
So I have a suggestion. Even at 26 billion, the damage estimates still equal a little less than four hours of war. I propose everybody fighting in Iraq take four hours off (without pay, of course). There’s a holiday weekend coming up – fire up the grill, cook a few burgers, kick back with a cold brewski for half a day. You get a nice break, we cover the bills with a nice cushion for any damage from Lee, Maria, Nate, Ophelia…
Or maybe we should just set it aside as a down payment for this.

Dee, I hate to point this out...but you've made a math error. 26 billion is closer to 4000x7.4 million (one billion = 1000 million). Actually, it's closer to 3500 hours. Now, one week is 168 hours, so this works out to something like 21 weeks. About 5 months.
So, does that sound OK? We curtail the war for five months, let the Iraqis sort it out for themselves. And if the government collapses and society takes that baby step into chos and anarchy, with warlords appearing and seizing control, turning the country into a terrorist stronghold? Well, then we just send in the troops again, refreshed and ready after a five-month break. Heck, there will be a lot fewer insurgents to deal with, since in the ensuing five months half of them will probably have killed the other half!
oh that's even better!!! your vision of iraq after a five-month break probalby isn't that much different from what will be there even if we stay, so sure...take an even bigger break and come back tan, rested and ready.
Bad math any way you clook at it.
Better to be out of the equation entirely.
All but for that pesky oil.
