It worked so well last year...

The year's at the spring
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hillside's dew-pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn:
God's in His heaven—
All's right with the world!

Robert Browning
from "Pippa Passes"

Robert Browning may have employed a gardener, but he obviously was not a gardener himself. I married a gardener, and he is never happy to see a snail on the thorn or anywhere else.

My resident gardener has no objection to larks on the wing, however; not that we ever get larks. The most exciting birds we get are Anna's hummingbirds; the loudest are scrub jays.
